The people that can harvest the most attention and stay relevant for the longest periods of time are the ones who randomly strike controversy. Andrew Tate, Kayne West, Donald Trump, Kim Kardashian, the list goes on and on. Controversy is the easiest way to extract attention and emotion out of someone. Use this to your advantage but don’t bury yourself with it.
Controversial Hook → Your Reasoning → Social Proof → Hard CTA
This is pretty self explanatory, we all have an idea of thinking that goes against the grain. Obviously if that idea isn’t accepted by the platform or is hatred towards others then keep it to yourself. Other than that have fun with this, try to keep it within your niche don’t just complain about trump if you are a copywriting coach. Also keep the facts out of this section, we want the viewer to be fully emotional right now. We will prove our point in the next section
Example: (For a Fitness Coach) Being fat isn’t a good thing no matter what Lizzo Says (Borrowing Interest ;)
Give your most logical explanation on why you believe in this controversial take. Try not to let emotions sway your content because that will lead to a bad outcome of this template. Again this is social media and kids are watching your content, keep that in mind.
Example: Your body is a visual representation of your discipline and thinking, why could this be bad if you are fat? Well lets imagine this, your interviewing 2 people. They have the same exact resume and they both seem like great candidates for the job, pretty much identical. The only difference is that one person is fat and the other is in good shape. Your unconscious will make the decision for you to choose the in shape candidate because it shows that they have impulse control and understanding of short term vs long term satisfaction.
This is less of your own social proof for your offer but more objectifiable proof, anything that can back up your reasoning and claim. People are emotional and that’s what we focused on. Now it’s time to bring them back to being logical so they don’t go into your CTA with an emotion based decision.
Example: In a perfect world, hiring managers would focus solely on skills and not physical appearance. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. A study concluded only 15 percent of hiring managers would choose the fattest employee over the well fit employee. On top of that 21 percent of hiring managers described the fat employee as lazy.
Well if they don’t agree with your ideology this could go two ways, they could block you or they can come to their senses and want to change. Give them a direct instruction on what you want them to do.
